What Are Weeds Anyway?
A weed is a plant considered undesirable, unattractive, unwanted, or troublesome. A noxious weed is a plant that can potentially become a hazard to our Montana environment, ecosystems, and economy. There are currently 23 listed noxious weeds in our state that land owners must enter into approved management programs to keep from spreading.
Why You Should Care
Montana's quality of life is at risk with each new invasion of noxious weeds. Our recreational areas, croplands, wildlands, rangelands, and small acreages are threatened with the deadly impact of noxious weeds. By becoming aware of noxious weeds and their threat to our standard of living, we can not only educate each other but can also create feasible management plans for the weeds that are already here and work out ways together to prevent more from coming in or spreading.
Anyone who owns property or lives in Montana is capable of becoming aware of and working to find a solution to the problem of invasive weeds in our state. Only through education and awareness can the problem of weeds someday be eradicated.
You Can Do This
The Speaking Out Presentation Kit includes a 20-minute PowerPoint presentation, the accompanying script, and a list of resources to get you started in your mission to help people learn about noxious weeds. Anyone giving a presentation, whether you are an elementary student, a teacher, or someone who needs to provide an informative presentation for a luncheon can give this presentation. It is perfect for any general presentation meeting and provides a simple explanation of how invasive weeds arrived here, their impacts, and what we can do together to stop them.
